My Book Rating System

I’ve been meaning to write my book rating system as so many bookstagrammers do. It’s very rare for me to give out the far ends of the spectrum (1 ⭐️or 5 ⭐️).

And often I will do 3.75 or 4.75 because it just might not be fully there 📚and like the wise Carrie Bradshaw said “What can I say? sometimes a girl needs a half.” Or 3/4’s 🩷

★★★★★ – Masterpiece:
This rating is reserved for books that are truly exceptional. The writing, characters, and author’s skill combine to create an unforgettable reading experience. It’s a book that you can’t put down, and you’ll enthusiastically recommend it to everyone you know. Expect to be captivated and immersed in this literary masterpiece.

★★★★ – Highly Enjoyable:
This rating signifies a book that is highly enjoyable and well-crafted. While there might be a few minor aspects that could be improved, overall the story, characters, and writing will leave a positive impression. It’s a book you’ll likely remember and recommend to others.

★★★ – Good, with Some Reservations:
This rating indicates a book that has its merits but also some drawbacks. It’s still a decent read, but has aspects I didn’t fully appreciate, such as the ending or the relatability of the main characters. I struggled to get into the book initially, but it’s worth giving it a chance.

★★ – Mediocre or Disappointing:
This rating suggests a book that falls into the average or mediocre range. I likely had some issues with it, and it didn’t fully meet my expectations. I considered not finishing it (DNF), and certain aspects like the writing or multiple characters were difficult to tolerate.

★ – Unsatisfactory or Did Not Finish (DNF):
This rating signifies a book that failed to impress and left me dissatisfied. It might have been a struggle to read, and I likely didn’t even finish it. The writing or multiple characters were unbearable, making the reading experience feel like a chore.

Do we rate similarly at all?

What was the last book you DNF’d?
