Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson is a gripping sequel to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. The story follows the protagonist, Pip, as she investigates the disappearance of a friend while dealing with the aftermath of her viral true-crime podcast.
The book starts with a slow pace, giving readers a chance to catch up with Pip’s life after the events of the first book. However, once the plot gets going, the pace picks up, and the story becomes increasingly addictive. Holly Jackson does an excellent job of building tension and keeping the reader engaged throughout the book.
The character development in Good Girl, Bad Blood is top-notch. Pip is a relatable protagonist with real flaws and struggles. Her relationships with the other characters, including her boyfriend Ravi, are well-crafted and add depth to the story. The introduction of new characters is seamless, and they all serve a purpose in the plot.
The mystery itself is well-crafted, with several twists and turns that keep the reader guessing. While some of the plot points may be predictable, the author still manages to surprise the reader with unexpected reveals and twists.
However, the book does have a few shortcomings. The pacing, while generally good, can be uneven at times, with some parts feeling rushed and others dragging on. Additionally, some of the characters’ actions and decisions feel unrealistic and contrived, which can be frustrating.
Overall, Good Girl, Bad Blood is a satisfying follow-up to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. While it may not be perfect, it is an entertaining and well-crafted mystery that fans of the first book will enjoy. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and engaging read. I give it a 3.75/5 stars.
